OQI com Kimmo Mathias

O Kimmo é uma figura incrível que conheci há alguns anos quando eu trabalhei com gestão de design para moda. Ele é finlandês e se descreve da seguinte forma em seu blog.

Fashion designer, amateur songwriter/singer, amateur photographer. Creative mad man. That's what I am.

Desta vez o consagrado One Question Interview será com ele. E devo dizer...que baita resposta que ele me deu. PQP.

Sec2o: Northern people are more/less hotter than us (tropical people)?

Kimmo: both! I think in a way we are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. First of all, you live in the very warm, while we live in the very cold. The concept of hotness is a bit misleading and it varies: hotness is in the eye of the beholder. Both of our people represent natural beauty but in a different way. Northern people are often perceived more rough in their physical appearance, more reserved in behaviour and very white.

The tropical people have a certain softness and a sense of freedom about them - maybe it's your famous 'allegre', joy of life. When the summer comes, people in the north turn into different people, the light and the warmth changes us and our behaviour. We literally crawl out of our homes and spread all over the place, cafes, parks, nature, lakesides and we worship the sun.

If we think of hotness through physical appearance: tropical people are a bit more petite in size and to me the shade of your skin colour matched with your prominent hair colour seems sensual and exotic. I think I don't need to tell you about our own extreme: natural platinum blondes with bright blue eyes. So, I would say we both have our assets!

I think the essential difference - and it holds in our character and behaviour - is this: we may warm up a bit slower but once we loose our inhibitions, reservations and hit that 'hot zone' then we might just beat you in the game! I'd take a hot & cold Finnish guy rather than a Brazilian one (no offense to anyone). Hahaha!

Hehehe! Okay, you put my video in too! Yup, I think if all possible participants would enter with their own language, it would be a disaster! =) But let's hope enough people show up with some lyrics and preferably in english... although when thinking about it, there could be one sentence somewhere for example in one foreign language or in several running through the song. But if that foreign languaged sentence would be very difficult to pronounce, then I need a voice sample and not just the words, haha! Thanks!

i can say few things about finland. there are new brands rising and hopefully more will follow. just few i could mention is IvanaHelsinki and KoneHelsinki. They are two different brands though they sound alike. The fashion business and business in general is very difficult in finland because of high taxes so to start your own label is not so easy.

no not necessarily. i mean in finland there is companies like l-fashion group that owns many many brands, marimekko which is classic finnish brand created in the fifties. and people here do value the made in finland-products. But at the same time producing here is very expensive so companies do move their production elsewhere. But of course the imported products are selling well too.

But high taxes do prevent new talents rising of course. The big companies rule and the designers that have a reputation already. Its difficult to enter the brands and like fashion business many times does, also in Finland its about connections.

how many habitants Finland has?

Kimmo Matias diz:

asia is a big competitor and eastern europe too. it gets very difficult to beat the prices.

compared to brasil, finland is a small town, haha. about five million people only.

finnish design is like scandinavian design. functional, in my own opinion sometimes even a bit too functional. classic, clean lines. this goes on every sector of design. but when you live here, where in the winter the temperature goes down to minus 20 or even more, you have to think about functionality and aesthetics from a little different perspective than if it would be sunny all the time,

well in few years the music scene has really risen from the ground. i mean, before the swedish made the music, you may know Abba etc... many others... and Finland was sort of trying but not really hitting it big. Now the situation is different.

Kimmo Matias diz:

Especially the metal scene is very big and growing.

Groups like HIM, The Rasmus, Lordi have made it big, also in the states.

Actually Abba is the first group I remember a song from my childhood.

It was a song called Chiquitita. Very sad actually. Maybe that is why I have this two-sided personality, very joyful but reserved at the same time... I embrace pain cos it gave me me, you know... All very complex. But part of life. What do you have when you put a poet, amateur songwriter, fashion designer, painter together? You get me, Kimmo Matias. Haha.
